It Feels Like Homecoming!
I was so honoured when I received a phone call from Charles Denham, the male co-chair of PRIDE, to ask me to be the PRIDE patron for this year.
I have always been a strong supporter of PRIDE and what it has achieved in our community in the past 20 years. The importance of a group like PRIDE has not diminished over that time, although there have been challenges and hurdles for them to get over. But fortunately we have seen a strong resurgence in interest and support of PRIDE and its aims and objectives and I am proud to be the patron for this year. (more…)
StyleAID - The Evolution of an Era
This year marks the 12th year for STYLEAID and the night will once again showcase everything that is amazing about WA Fashion. STYLEAID this year also marks the last event at which I will be the event coordinator.
I have been involved with STYLEAID since the beginning when I worked as a committee member for the first 3 years. I took over the management of the event when STYLEAID turned 4 and have been fortunate to have seen the event go from strength to strength and become the number 1 fashion fundraising event in Perth. Three Into Goes WOW
Well, it‘s official! In a first for STYLEAID there will be three amazing hosts taking to the stage to share the hosting duties at the event.
After doing an amazing job last year Narelda Jacobs from Network Ten returns to the catwalk along with two sensational first time hosts for the event. Finding talent to host STYLEAID is never an easy task and one that we begin very early in the year to see who would be interested in supporting the event by taking the reigns on stage. (more…)
WOW - White on White - Features 2 New Faces

For the past 11 years there have been a number of amazing young models in Perth who have been selected to be the faces of STYLEAID and this year is no exception.
In the past the event has had Emma Booth (now an actress on the big screen), Ryan Porter, Mim Taylor, Yasmine Jellef and Josh Dagnall all grace the pages of the STYLEAID magazine as well as the website and all associated media for the event. It’s that time of year again - STYLEAID 2009, Western Australia’s premier fashion event is looking for four Western Australian emerging fashion labels/designers to be presented on the runway alongside the 12 established Western Australian fashion designers.
STYLEAID has now been running successfully for the past 11 years and in this time we have introduced to the runway many of Western Australia’s outstanding designers such as One Fell Swoop, Of Cabbages and Kings, Belle Bijoux and Alister Yiap. Fashion trends for the coming year are moving towards simple structures with clean lines and this is the first (and in some cases the only) chance that people in Perth will get to see these amazing designs – all while supporting the work of the WA AIDS Council! Men on Men 2 - The Retreat
Over the past 22 years here at the WA AIDS Council we have been running a range of different courses for men with same sex attractions, from Men On Men to Nitty Gritties and in the last few years have added a range of new workshops to the stable. Loving Our Way – the relationships course, Cruising 101 and Talk To Me , have all become important workshops in their own right to further enhance and build skills for men. (more…)
Talk to Me
What two things do Harvey Milk, Socrates, Oscar Wilde, James Baldwin and Tennessee Williams all have in common?
They all had same sex attractions and they were all great communicators.
They were incredible orators as well as wordsmiths and spent their lives putting into words some amazing stories, speeches and verses to educate and entertain. Each of these men was able to put their point across and be understood by those they were communicating with. (more…)
Skiing into Beauty: OUTfashioned with Mark Reid
As I was recently swishing and rolling down the ski slopes in Queenstown at the annual Gay Ski Week, I found myself alongside a delightful young man, and, as you do, we began to discuss what we did back in our home cities.
As it turns out Nathan Snare just happened to work for a West Australian company that is going global faster than you can say ‘Happy PRIDE’. As we sat down for some lunch, in between learning how to turn our skis so we did not look like complete fools, I wanted to get to know more about him and the company that he is the national sales and operation manager for, BECCA. Fragrance Road Trip ‘08
Some of you who are regular readers of the fashion pages of OUT might remember my wonderful fragrance road trip from last year celebrating some of the new fragrances to hit our shores. Even though the air outside is still crisp it will only be a matter of weeks before we once again see much more sunshine and the return of warmer weather. (more…)
