Cross Campus Queer Network: Which Way Is Gay?

The CCQN began in 2006 and is now in its fifth year. Ever since queer departments and young queer voices began emerging on campus there has been a growing sense of unity which has culminated in the current representation of sexuality and diversity for the queer students at our universities. The Cross Campus Queer network is a social, political, academic and representative collective of queer student working towards safety and acceptance. There is now a sense of unity between the campuses and actions toward equality like never before. (more…)

Freedom Centre Garage Sale

Freedom Centre will be holding a garage sale on Saturday 13th March 1-5pm to raise funds for a new weekend-long retreat to be held in July this year.

The retreat is an opportunity for Freedom Centre young people to have a weekend away, get active, relax and learn new skills.

Unfortunately Freedom Centre’s budget does not cover accommodation, transport and recreation costs for a retreat this big so we are fundraising to make it happen. (more…)

GLCS Telephone Counsellor Training 2010

Your Community Needs You!

GLCS is looking for community-minded GLBT people to train as volunteer peer helpers to operate our 35-year-old telephone counselling, information and referral line.

Our next 6-week telephone counsellor training course starts on Sunday March 21st. Prior counselling experience is not required. The course is also open to people who may have previously completed the GLCS counselling course and wish to return to the organisation. (more…)

Project X: Sexual Adventurism Forum

We need your experience and knowledge! The WA AIDS Council (WAAC) wants to gain a better understanding and insight into gay men who enjoy group sex activities. So, WAAC is introducing a new, free forum that will run monthly, starting from March 23. This forum is specifically for the guys who are interested in ‘things less vanilla’ and who wish to discuss issues, challenges and possibilities in an open, frank and social environment. (more…)

An Open Letter From Pride

Dear Community,

It wouldn’t be the start of a new year if there weren’t rumours circulating about the health and future of Pride. I’d like to take this opportunity to openly discuss Pride’s current position and some of the challenges the committee has been faced with in the past few months, as Pride’s side is often left unheard in these matters. Sunset Coasters – It Just Gets Better!

Sick of the same old, same old… looking for some variety in the after work social scene – then get along to a Sunset Coasters event!

Formed in 2008, Sunset Coasters is an informal social group open to people of all ages which meets at a different cafe, bar or pub in the Perth CBD each month on the third Wednesday of every month … without fail.

Unlike other ‘members only’ clubs or associations, Sunset Coasters has no formal membership process and no pressure. You just come along when you want to, meet up with friends and colleagues, enjoy the atmosphere of some of the latest small bars, pubs and cafes in the CBD and have a good time. (more…)

Gals Return For A Big Year In 2010

GALSWA (the gay and lesbian singers of WA) begins its 17th year when rehearsals recommence on January 14th. The choir is looking forward to an exciting year in 2010 with several highlights already on the calendar. This includes travelling to Auckland, New Zealand for our first international appearance to participate in the third Out and Loud Gay Australasian Choral Festival at Easter. The festival will finish with a gala concert in Auckland Town Hall, which will feature individual choir performances and the world premiere of a piece for organ and massed choir by David Hamilton commissioned especially for the event. The choir will also travel to Denmark (WA) to participate in the Denmark Festival of Voice over the June long-weekend. This has long been a favourite of the choir providing another opportunity to showcase the choir’s talent and also be part of the wider choir network and to hear plenty of good music. Later in the month the choir will present its own Perth concert – watch out for ticket announcements, as our 2009 concert was standing room only. (more…)

Get Ready Fot Action With GALE

Happy New Year from GALE! And what a year it is set to be with a Federal election on the not-to-distant horizon and Senator Sarah-Hanson Young’s same-sex Marriage Bill set to be debated in Parliament within the next few months, it looks like we’ll be having a fair bit to get up on our soap boxes about.

Indeed, now that we have a new (and slightly more hard-headed) leader of the conservative Opposition – it looks as though we’ll definitely be looking at an interesting year in politics, so stock up on popcorn and get ready for some interesting (if somewhat exasperating) debates. (more…)

Freedom Centre and GLCS Wish You a Happy Festive Season

The festive season is a time to take a break and celebrate with the ones you love. But for people with diverse sexuality and gender it can also be a time when we are reminded of our diversity and sometimes feel more lonely and isolated from our family if they are not understanding or supportive, or if we are not out to them.

The festive season has been found to be a time of higher stress for many people with some of the pressures that come from end of year tasks, costs, and juggling family obligations and dynamics. Death, separation, divorce, remarriage, and job-related separations cause many individuals to feel a dissonance with the traditional holiday-related values, so this may also increase the stress through the festive season.
