Trend Predictions 2010… Part Two
There’s no need to say too much. With the start of not only a new year but a new decade, fashion is sure to once again reinvent itself. The basic premise is that we borrow from 20 years back (the opposite being in architecture, where we build for 20 years in the future) to inform and influence the present. It’s enough distance to make sense of the good, the bad and the ugly while rediscovering what made that era so exciting, transmuting that zeitgeist into something new, yet slightly nostalgic. (more…)
Trend Predictions for 2010… part one
Compiled by Scott-Patrick Mitchell
When it comes to trend predictions there are two schools of thought. The first is that there are no trends, simply style. Which, by and large, is true – as a lover of fashion you should use the experience to cultivate a style rather than a look, a philosophy of how to dress rather than a wardrobe which dictates your mood.
The second school of thought is that trends are there to be followed. These are the larger scope of ideas and products being pushed on to the public. They are the shapes and silhouettes that appear on the catwalk, filter down through popular culture and remerge on the streets. (more…)
Arj Selvam’s Golden Ratio
Arj Selvam is a young Perth designer getting ready to make it big. His debut self-titled menswear label hits this January and promises to be an interesting adventure in fashion, one that is dark and mysterious yet highly covetable.
His clothes are informed by a degree in mechanical engineering and commerce. It’s a background which emerges through Selvam’s incorporation of such aesthetics as The Golden Ratio, or 1.618, the title of his AW 10 / European SS 10 range. (more…)
Give The Gift… of Shopping!

Northbridge has gone through some turbulent times in the last few years, but throughout all the controversy and madness one shining little has emerged, lifting the profile of Perth’s entertainment precinct like nothing before.
That shining light? The OnWilliam Collective, naturally. Since their inception OnWilliam have revolutionized the shopping and cultural experience of Northbridge, shifting its image to that of an incredibly hip and happening strip, crammed full of galleries and fashion outlets. (more…)

EXPAND YOUR BRAND
Just as spring is a blossom with flowers (and hayfever) it appears some of our local shops are growing new shoots and expanding ever outwards. Dilettante is the first. Its menswear has moved down the street which means you now have two Dilettante spaces to indulge all your dress-up fantasies: Dilettante Femme which is the old Dilettante space and Dilettante Homme, which has opened up on the corner of King and Wellington Streets. A more intimate, cosy affair, Dilettante Homme provides some fantastic finds. Also expanding their brand is S2. These Angove Street favourites have opened up a new space on Glyde Street in Mosman Park. This new space boasts wooden floorboards and more of your S2 favourites, including Alistair Trung, Lui Hon and S2. And not to be outdone one hears that Prada will making an appearance on Murray Street in the next six months. Excited? You should be. It’s a whole new bunch of hot-spots in which to shop! www.dilettante.net www.s2perth.com.au (more…)

Grad Shows 2009

It’s the end of the year. Yes, Christmas might be on the horizon. Yes, summer is already burning up the bitumen. And yes, the end of the year means one other inevitable fact: it’s grad show time!
While thousands of students toil slavishly to produce their final works or thread together the final bits of their graduating collections, the rest of us can smile and relax comfortably into our role as spectator. Bespoke is the New Black
Savile Row was the birth place of the bespoke suit. The phrase ‘bespoke’ originated as a result of a particular cloth for a suit that would ‘be spoken for’ by a customer, the phrase shortening over the last 275 years since the inception of London’s golden mile of the tailoring.
Now, in Perth, Joseph Anthony is the home of the bespoke suit. And here, the stigma of the bespoke suit being an elite acquisition has well and truly been removed. ‘From our perspective, we’re sensitive to the Perth market, and offer top quality and affordable prices, without any compromise on design, style, fabric or service,’ explained Terrance Borgioli from Joseph Anthony.
