Fashion Forward: PFF 2010
For seven days this September, Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) returns with a spectacular calendar of over 50 events featuring more than 160 labels, 100 models and over 100 WA designers, big and small.
If you have never experienced PFF before, this is the year to do so, especially with PFF once again transforming the old Gasworks Building into a state of the art runway venue, Fashion Paramount. (more…)
Popsicle Top Picks @ PFF 2010
On William will once again take the attitude out of fashion with Popsicle, a pop-up shop dedicated entirely to emerging WA designers. This year Popsicle appears in the Perth Cultural Centre outside PICA, housed in two refurbished shipping containers, complete with outdoor exhibition space. STYLEAID tribe blew apart Burswood on Friday July 30 with an evening of style, sophistication and decadence. The evening was hosted by the delectable duo of Verity James – dressed in a sweeping orange Aurelio Costarella goddess gown – and 92.9’s Hottest Footy Player Dave Dawes, both of whom did a sterling job making sure the whole thing went off without a hitch. STYLEAID: Student Designers Set To Shine Again!
Last year at STYLEAID a new innovation from Aly May (STYLEAID stylist supremo and parade coordinator) closed the parade with a bang! It was an idea that sprang from the desire to showcase some of the emerging talent that was coming through the various design schools here in Perth before the students graduated and to give them the freedom of expression that sometimes gets lost when trying to create and make a commercial range, which is so necessary once the designers get out into the reality of the big wide world. If Chrissie Catling’s label, S2, was a cinematic feat it’d be an underground cult classic.
While other labels try to gorge themselves on big budget effects and sweeping gestures, hers is gritty, raw, multilayered and more than anything else, real.
Her clothes are edgy and directional. They intelligently accentuate, are asymmetrical and minimal, yet bold in their simplicity. (more…)
STYLEAID Emerging Designer: The Butcher & The Crow
Drama. All too often it’s used as a throw-away term in fashion to describe work of a certain sweeping ilk, work that is thrilling, vivid or striking.
Elisha Quintal’s label The Butcher & The Crow could be described as dramatic, but that’s too easy an description: at it’s core it’s so much more.
‘It was never my intention to be dramatic,’ Quintal said of her flowing silk garments which waft and engulf. (more…)
