TENNIS ANYONE?
The tennis season is well and truly under way, with Loton Park holding their regular training sessions on Tuesday nights and social games on Saturdays from 1pm. All skill levels are welcome however training sessions are divided into beginners, intermediate and advanced, so check the website for respective times http://web.mac.com/lotonpark/Loton_Park/Whats_On.html or email enquiries@lotonpark.com.au The club will also be hosting their annual Christmas Party on Saturday December 19, starting at 6.30pm. Highlights will include live performances and music by DJ Needle Nurse, a sausage sizzle and drinks at club prices.
ST MARY QUITE CONTRARY
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are planning a quiet and quirky protest at the opening of St Mary’s Cathedral on December 8 at 4pm. After more than three years and over $30 million, St Mary’s Cathedral in East Perth will reopen its doors in an invite-only VIP ceremony, attended by bishops from all over the country and the head of the Catholic Church in Australia, Cardinal George Pell. The sisters will be in attendance to bring attention to ‘gay and lesbian marriage rights, the acceptance of practicing gays and lesbians as full spiritual people and the use of condoms for safe sex,’ according to a statement from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s Abbey of the Black Swan. SUNDOWNER SEEKING A HOME
This month’s Christmas Pride Women’s Sundowner will be held at Loton Park on Wednesday, December 9 starting at 6.30pm. DJ Fluffy will be breaking out the funky tunes and there will be nibbles and drinks, with all bar proceeds going to help Loton Park. The event has been searching for a permanent home after the closure of Vulture’s Restaurant and Café due to renovations and will be taking venue suggestions on the night. Entry is $8 or $5 for Pride members.
BUNBURY GETS READY TO RUMBLE
Roller Derby is fast becoming the hot new lesbian activity- for both participants and spectators. While the metropolitan season may have wrapped up late last month in a bloody battle between the Mistresses of Mayhem and the Bloody Sundaes, regional derby enthusiasts can now get in on the action. About 30 women of varying skill levels already train with Bunbury Roller Derby and the group hope to register as part of a league next year. NORTHBRIDGE NEW YEARS
The City of Perth will be laying on free entertainment throughout Northbridge on New Year’s Eve, with stages in the Cultural Centre, Northbridge Piazza and on James Street featuring percussion performances, circus and aerial acts, comedy routines and burlesque dancers.
