SceneOUT With Panache – February

Hello my sweets, your fellow idol, drag queen Panache here!

If you missed Connections Nightclubs Pornstar Babylon, on February 19 they are sexing things up again with their famous shameless party! It will be themed DETENTION! Grab your old school dress and rip three quarters of it off, grab your boyfriend’s uniform and leave the shirt at home! Connies will be giving away a $250 prize for best costume!

If you don’t like to get out and about on those busy weekends, make sure you head down to The Court for their amazing menu! On a Monday and Tuesday head on over for their delicious $10 pizzas! They are almost literally to die for! Then on Thursdays they get down and dirty for their Steak Night with a huge prime rump steak and beer or wine for just $15. Bookings are not essential but the venue recommends you do. Take a seat in the front bar and look out onto what’s going on in the Cultural Centre, or take your table number out to the beer garden for some fresh air and intimate space.

Moving on into the weekends for The Court, Swish Eveready has some new queens on stage to mix things up and entertain you! If none of these events get you excited, make sure you head down for their resident superstars tunes by Flex, Tim Bee, Seb Sharp and Danni Boi! These guys are sure to get you into the swing of things, and they are sure to provide you with an atmosphere to dance away the issues in your life: forget the problems with the partner and release the tension between you and your boss, whatever that tension may be!

Skipping out of queer land, you must get online and book for a City of Perth event, the International Arts Festival’s The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac! Alternate drag artist, straight from the USA, tickets WILL sell out! Featuring the best songs from his award-winning shows, New York’s legendary cabaret-drag-performer Taylor Mac captivates with a subversive jukebox musical that will leave you exhausted and in love. Wickedly funny, this gender-bending fusion of insight, honesty and stark raving fabulousness demonstrates why Taylor Mac is considered one of the most exciting theatre artists of our time. This is going to be huge! Also check out Taylor Mac in Concert: Comparison is Violence or The Ziggy Stardust Meets Tiny Tim Songbook! Go to www.perthfestival.com.au/taylor-mac-in-concert to find out more and to grab all you need to know on the amazing after parties going on, which will include performances from Ash Baroque, myself and many other a queen!

Well, if that’s not enough for you, a place I can indeed see myself attending is the opening of “Flawless” the 27th February. Naturally, with a name like that, it’s located nowhere else but Perth’s very own high class suburb, Subiaco. The night itself has been named SCENE and is running every Sunday at the newly refurbished venue, the ‘Sapphire Bar’. SCENE will be aiming at raising the bar of entertainment throughout the gay community, and I very much look forward to seeing what they have in store for us.

Now to Perth’s locally produced gay variety talk show, starring myself. The show has kicked off season 3 in an exclusive studio set at Studio88 on Victoria Road. The show itself, ‘Party Proud with Panache’, is encompassing more of the community. You can come down and watch the show LIVE as a studio audience member, Monday nights at 7pm. Coming up on the PPP Panel is your very own past SceneOUT columnist mOther, and current award winning poet, editor and Fashion writer for OUTin Perth, Scott-Patrick Mitchell. Scott-Patrick will feature in the show on the 14th, followed by Cirque Du Soleilon boy Stee on the 21st and Connections door girl Jacqueline Hyde on the 28th! However this monday night we are joined by Clubwest residant and recent guest for BENT at Bar138, Tammy Tampax!

Going strong in the Perth community since 1990 and still having a ball is none other than Club West. That’s right, it’s back on Saturday March 26 with special guests Julia Jenkins and the Ruby Roses. Jenkins takes you on a full-throttle ride through 45 minutes of Bette Midler classics! Supporting acts in the show include performances from none other than myself (Panache), Feminem, Miss Venemous, contemporary artist Tom Penney and Perths latest drag talent competition winner, Miss Double D Merits. Also performing are rising stars Aria Ready and Elixir Bowles, with many other talents and queeeeeeeens. Including Club West residents Tammy, Cheeri and of course Den Mum, founder of the show, aka Terry Larder. Tickets can be purchased now at www.clubwest.com.au but hurry as tables are selling fast!

Until next issue my sweets, party proud, be good to your mOther, and send me your gossip!
