RTR 92.1FM’s Radiothon has returned this August with more prizes, parties and special broadcasts to rustle up some much needed subscribers and funds.

The Radiothon is the station’s annual subscription drive, a vital event necessary to the everyday running of the station and this year the theme, ‘Its Your Shout’ highlights the importance of listeners giving back.

RTR General Manager Graeme Watson said that without subscribers, there was no budget and no radio station.

‘We ask our listeners to become subscribers, it’s a fun 10 days of broadcasting; we encourage people for subscriptions so the madness and craziness can happen,’ Watson said.

On Saturday August 21, the 10-day event kicks off with the Opening Night party at the Astor Theatre boasting a massive bill that would rival BP’s.

A three-stage event, the opening night will feature the debonair Voltaire twins and their synth-pop melodies.

Local indie-pop masters Boys, Boys, Boys will also take control of the main stage while the some of the city’s best DJs hold the fort in the upstairs Candy Bar.

Then to wrap up the subscription drive, the Radiothon Closing Party will showcase a huge selection of local talent including the likes of Will Stoker and the Embers, Harlequin League and the Tigers.

Held at the Rosemount Hotel on Saturday August 28, this rock/indie/acoustic soiree will offer three stages of entertainment, delivering more live music than previously thought possible.

Subscribers also go in the draw to win a return holiday to Bali or a full DJ kit with more to win.

RTR 92.1FM has been broadcasting since 1977 as an independent, non-commercial voice for Perth residents.
