A sixteen year old gay teen has been murdered in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Kaique Batista dos Santos had all his teeth pulled out with pliers and was reportedly battered to death by a gang of skinheads.
The teenager had attended a party the previous evening, his friends have said that he left early because of his work commitments the next day. When he did not return home his family began searching for him. His body was found on January 11 near to the new stadium being built for soccer’s upcoming World Cup.
While some reports suggest that police originally classified the teens death as a suicide, it is now being investigated as a murder. Aside from the torture inflected upon Batista dos Santos his wallet and mobile phone we also stolen.
Batista Dos Santos is not the only LGBT murder that has occurred in the country in recent weeks.
The body of Antonio Goncalves Pereira was found Wednesday near the city of Uberlandia. Pereira’s hands were tied behind his back. His body reflected signs of torture, with lacerations in his hands, abdomen, and the back of his head and neck. Police believe he was murdered.
Another teenager Sebastiao Fleuri’s body was found dumped on a dirt road near Itaberaà on Wednesday. Police said they are holding a suspect but not providing any additional details at this time.
Jullivan Pinheiro Castelo Branco, a baker from Manuas, was found in his home on Thursday with multiple stab wounds on his back; he was last seen alive two days earlier.
On Friday the LGBTI community in Sao Paulo staged a vigil for Batista Dos Santos and the other recent victims.
