Help Ben Find Independence Day!

Mosman Park 21-year-old Ben Keely is appealing for help to lead his adult life independently of his parents. Ben, who has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair, requires help with everything, from personal care to exploring the world.

He wants to use his disability funding to put together a team of carers who will be supported, trained and paid through not-for-profit agency Perth Home Care Services (PHCS).

Ben is an energetic, intelligent, thoughtful person with lots of ideas, who wants help to visit art galleries, join friends for a drink at the pub, and go to movies and concerts. It’s probably important to appreciate pop music – Ben has recently enjoyed Kylie Minogue, Pink and Robbie Williams. We’re told he’s also an OUTinPerth reader!

He’s looking for carers who are good for a chat, have a strong work ethic and mature outlook and who have the ability to help with practical needs. If you are interested in assisting Ben, there are a range of activities and shift times for which he will require assistance. Day to day living assistance is required, but Ben is also searching for people who are able to help him pursue his dreams, interests and projects.

PHCS’s Raylene Nestler said joining Ben’s care team would be a satisfying career move.

‘We teach his carers new skills. They receive intensive training and are well supported. They have the option to work towards qualifications to build a new career.’

If you would like to help Ben, please contact Kate Sowden at Perth Home Care Services on 9204 7800.
