Review: Hand Painted Legs

Ash Baroque and StrykermyerOn another wonderful summer’s evening the Fringe World’s Spiegeltent was visited by the irrepressible Voix De La Ville team who presented their next instalment of wonderful, quirky and avant garde music and performance art.

The eclectic fringe dwelling audience knew how to dress for the evening with cheeky bottoms on show, suspenders, hats, a touch of glitter and creative make up adding to the synergy of the night.

Petra Dish delivered a school girl ‘weird science’ treat complete with white coat but not for long before the pasties were exposed.  Strykermeyer hit the stage with a tall yellow feathered cone hat and suit performing to Diamanda Galas, the crowd transfixed.

VCA stepped forth with her Andy Warhol dress only to lose it early but the crowd were appreciative of her cinched waist, brocade pasties and art nouveau inspired black glass beaded modesty.  Singing live from gorgeous black lips she was accentuated with op-art visuals swirling in the background, the homage to the eighties appreciated.

The vixen of the night was Axe Girl who hit the stage with her throaty, sexy voice all in white with white guitar but alas she was short and sweet.  Last chance to catch her during the Fringe will be this Saturday at the Bird at 10pm – don’t miss her!

In one of her rare performances Glamour Puss with fan in hand didn’t disappoint.   Cindy Pastel emerged from the centre of the audience aglow in a kaleidoscope of colour dragging a toy dog before taking to the stage.  Lime green slinky stretched to effect with colourful fake fur animals to boot, the crowd salivated for more.

The finale of the evening featuring Ash Baroque and Strykermeyer drooling black liquid from their mouths to Sonic Youth’s ‘Little Trouble Girl’ delivered deadpan and slightly ghoulish was perfect for those of us required to get home before sunrise.

Titillation and intrigue delivered off into the night the audience scuttled, dreams to be had.  One can only hope that it won’t be too long before the next underground variety show from Voix De La Ville rears its head.

Hand Painted Legs was on for one night only, find out about the other shows at Fringeworld.
