Last month marked a significant step in the marriage equality movement as two new marriage bills were entered intoFederal Parliament. The Marriage Equality Amendment Bill 2012 was co-sponsored by Greens MP Adam Bandt and Independent Andrew Wilkie. Labor backbencher Stephen Jones submitted the second bill, the Marriage Amendment Bill 2012 on the same day. In the Senate, Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young’s Marriage Amendment Act 2010 was referred to Senate committee which will allow public submissions on the bill. Not be left out, the Liberals’ Warren Entsch suggested that he may throw a Civil Partnerships Bill into the mix.
