In 2011, the performer also known as Aimee Anne Duffy, completely disappeared from the spotlight.

Duffy reemerged in 2020 to reassure fans she was safe, sharing some harrowing news on social media.

“I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days,” Duffy shared in a now-deleted post.

“Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine.”

Later that year, Duffy shared further detail in a heartfelt essay published on her website.

She explained she had been drugged during birthday celebrations and taken to a foreign country, where she was held and assaulted over four weeks.

Now, Duffy feels ready to fully share her story with an in-depth interview for an upcoming Disney+ documentary.

“Duffy’s life has been shaped by success and fame, but equally by pain, defiance, and an irrepresible sense of self,” said Director Gill Callan.

“I’m drawn to the tension between vulnerability and confidence in her story and how a person can be deeply affected by their experiences, yet still find a powerful, expressive voice that is unmistakably hers.”

More details on the documentary’s release are expected later this year.
