Madonna and Charli XCX are teaming up for a remixed version of Madonna’s hit Danceteria.
The song, which recounts how Madonna got her start in the music industry after persuading DJ Mark Kamins to play her demo tape in a nightclub, has become one of the most popular tracks on her Confessions II album.
Fans have been calling for additional remixes of the song, and Madonna has now revealed that the Afterhours Mix, featuring Charli XCX, will be released on 24 September. So far, the only official reworking of the track has been a remix by DJ Harry Romero.
he collaboration was announced in a social media video featuring Madonna repeatedly saying her name and Charli XCX’s. The short clip rapidly cuts between images of both artists dancing.
“You wanna talk about Madonna and Charli?” the singer asks before a brief snippet of the new version of the song is played.
In the clip, Madonna wears a red hoodie featuring a photograph of herself from the 1980s.
Madonna previously teamed up with Sabrina Carpenter for the single Bring Your Love, while Kylie Minogue appeared a reworked version of Love Sensation.
Soon, the Madonna will take to the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she has reportedly received 11 nominations.
It marks the first time Madonna has led the MTV Video Music Award nominations since 1998, when she released Ray of Light. She also led the nominations in 1990 following the success of Vogue. On both occasions, she received nine nominations, making this year’s total a career best.
The VMAs will take place on 27 September in Los Angeles, and there is considerable anticipation surrounding Madonna’s appearance.
