Armed with a fantastic body, a bubbly personality, The Pinup is at once iconic and accessible, the girl next door with fun on her mind. In recent times, the clever crafting of burlesque starlets like Dita Von Teese and Christina Aguilera have seen The Pinup make a triumphant return into popular culture. But now, Perth based photographer Christophe Canato is daring to take The Pinup that little bit further… into the territory of men.
Yes, gender bending has never looked so glamorous as it does now under the keen eye of Canato. His project 08 Pinup Men Only is an adventure into the daring, the digital and the desirable of drag, a postmodern mash of boys dressing as girls, all rendered in airbrushed perfection. Yes, the over-the-top mystique of The Pinup is fused with even surreality and magic as Canato takes the outrageous overdone attitude of the drag queen and fuses it with the plastic portrait perfection of The Pinup. But now it seems he needs a little help…
Canato is currently looking for petite male models who would be willing to volunteer for this project. They can either be drag queens or willing to play the game. Canato does all the styling himself but is open to offers of help.
