Writer and comedian Judith Lucy has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is urging women to stay up to date with their health checks.
The 58-year-old comedian shared the news in an Instagram post titled “So I Have Cancer” on Tuesday morning.
Lucy said that after a recent mammogram she was told a scan had detected something “weird”.
“May I take this opportunity to say, ladies, for the love of God, keep up with your mammograms.
“Anyway, long story short, I’ve got breast cancer,” Lucy said.

The comedian said she would be undergoing a double mastectomy and that the cancer was in its early stages and non-aggressive.
Lucy initially underwent a lumpectomy, but the procedure revealed additional cancerous tissue. As a result, she opted for the recommended mastectomy, sharing the update with her trademark humour.
“So we have gone from a lumpectomy to a mastectomy on Friday week. I said, ‘While you’re there, let’s get rid of the other one.’
“Because if I do say so myself, I have had 40 years of large and spectacular breasts. You had your chance, fellas,” she joked.
“So I think I’m quite fine with going bra-free for my last chapter.”
In recent years, Lucy has retired from stand-up comedy, and her new book, Well Well Well, focuses on her interest in health and wellbeing. Her personal announcement also arrives during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
