Pride WA held their AGM on March 4, electing a new committee and revealing the theme for this year’s Pride Festival.

The committee is formed by a mix of previous members, some new faces and all are said to be very excited about the year ahead.

‘We are off to an earlier start than last year and with the theme already decided we can really get cracking and start planning for the year,’ said media liaison Andrew Baietta.

This year’s theme is Homecoming and it is hoped that Perth expats from around Australia and the world will come home to celebrate Pride in 2009.

‘Perth has a high emigration rate,’ says festival coordinator Kieran Bycroft.

‘Many people who are born and grow up in Perth fly the coup, leaving for bigger cities around the world.

‘This is particularly evident within Perth’s GLBT community.’

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Pride is set to be bigger and better than ever, with the committee promising more details will be revealed in the coming months.

Sharlene Dixon has retained her position as female co-president, while Charles Denham has been elected male co-president and secretary.

Andrew Baietta will take on the rolls of treasurer, media liaison and events, Bevan Marwick, membership coordination, Teresa Teal, volunteers, Wendy Houlahan, events, Jason Chrisp, marketing and Kieran Bycroft will be festival coordinator and artistic director.
