Review: Candice McQueen's Nasty

Candice McQueenLate Night Fringe World show ‘Candice McQueen’s Nasty’ is hilarious.

For over an hour the self declared mister sister delivered a mix of spoken word and song that was captivating and comical. McQueen had the audience possibly in something more than ‘the palm of her hand’, we were hanging on the end of her tongue.

Dressed in an outfit that paid homage to Alicia Silverstone in ‘Clueless’ and sporting ski ramp eye lashes, McQueen shared her life story of being an immortal Demi-God who has partied through the ages. From stories about Jesus’ post crucifixion career as a go-go dancer to falling in love with River Phoenix in the 90’s, to explaining why Titanic’s Jack Dawson was ‘clearly a faggot’, this show is full of shock, boundary pushing jokes and brilliant musical numbers.

Throughout the show we touch on Roxette, a cray cray take on Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Leave a Light On For Me’, Madonna, Paul Lekakis and All Saints – many given all new lyrics or meanings. McQueen’s story telling was first rate, we were immersed in her world created through a poetical craft. What this performer can do with just a raised eyebrow or a tonal inclination is impressive.

This show is brilliant – definitely adults only – make the effort to catch a performance.

Catch UK artist Spanky in ‘Candice McQueen’s Nasty’, on at the Idolize Speigeltent at 9:45pm, tickets at Fringe World.
