Sydney’s Independent Member of NSW Parliament, Alex Greenwich, has introduced a motion condemning the conduct of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) in the past 12 months.

Highlighting the extremist comments made by members of the ACL, the motion states:

“That this house:

 1) Condemns the Australian Christian Lobby for stating that smoking is healthier than being gay and comparing Gay and Lesbian advocates to Nazis

 2) Notes that the majority of Christians support equality for gay and lesbian Australians

 3) Notes that Australia is a secular country which separates Church and State.”

Greenwich has claimed that introducing the motion will give Labor and Coalition colleagues the opportunity to distance themselves from a group that is becoming “increasingly extremist and alarmist”.

According to Greenwich – most Christians are in support of equality for gay and lesbian Australians.
