Stars of the Future- Freedom's Got Talent!

The Young People at the Freedom Centre will have you awestruck at this year’s Pride Patron event ‘Stars of the Future’, when they showcase their talents for the 2009 Pride Festival.

Mark Reid is this year’s Pride Patron and he is collaborating with the Freedom Centre to present a rollicking night of entertainment on October 7th at the Burlesque Lounge in Northbridge at 6.00pm. This event will feature the amazing talents of the young members of the GLBTIQ community, particularly those attending the Freedom Centre, encouraging them to express themselves through the arts.

Expressing personal journeys through drag, musical performance, spoken words or poetry and healthy living is what ‘Stars of the Future’ is all about. Having a sense of identity, a supportive community in which people feel safe and can share experiences, a place to live and a capacity to express themselves is vital for health and wellbeing.

The young people at the Freedom Centre are a diverse group, but all have their individual talents. At the recent rehearsals we got a taste of what’s to come at Stars of the Future and the performances were moving, heartfelt and awe-inspiring! Performances will include a gypsy folk punk-style solo act, an outrageous drag number, a saxophone solo, a fabulous fashion show, piano and vocal pieces, powerful poetry readings, and a rock pop punk band performance.

According to 2009 Patron, Mark Reid, Stars of the Future is going to be a wonderful opportunity for the brilliant young people at the Freedom Centre to show their talents and get support from their friends, family members and community!’

Entertainment, altruism and more exuberance than you can Twitter, missing out on this one-night-only Pride event would clearly be a terrible mistake! So make sure you get your tickets in advance from the WA AIDS Council, the Freedom Centre or on the door at the Burlesque lounge on the night.
