The Living Proud Suicide Prevention Project celebrated it’s achievements to date last night during a function held at City Farm. The contributions of community groups, project team members and ‘community champions’ were acknowledged.

Living Proud Coordinator Tamara Bezu said the comprehensive and  ambitious plan that was launched last year had three main goals,

“Increasing awareness of suicide prevention in the LGBT community, improving LGBT community connection and social support, and decreasing discrimination within the LGBT community.”, outlined Ms Bezu.

Community picnics, fitness sessions, the establishment of a rainbow families group, community workshops, diversity forums, the project’s website and social networks were outlined as some of the activities that had occurred over the last year. Ms Bezu highlighted that over 100 community members had been training in suicide prevention awareness.

The Gay and Lesbian Singers of Western Australia gave an impressive performance singing Bob Marley’s ‘Could You Be Loved’ and the classic ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ as well as a number of other tunes.
