The Male Form

Jeremy Strack with artworkA bold collection that presents a rugged landscape of strong shapes and contours in celebration of the male form is what’s on show at Perth Artist Jeremy Strack’s latest exhibition.

Strack is proud to present ‘l’homme’, his compelling collection of contemporary artworks which are currently being featured at Gallery 360 in Subiaco during the month of September.

Strack explains to OUTinPerth why he was attracted to paint male images,

“It’s based primarily on the fact that the female form is so overly represented, I wanted to address that imbalance,” said Strack.

Strack notes that in society we’re possibly conditioned to expected artistic images to be feminine, so much that some people who have seen his latest works have commented that they were quite ‘muscular women’, not realising that images were of the male form.

Strack explains the production process for the images, describing how he started with photographs as reference material before painting the images. The background and the figures both have some textures elements in them which give an additional dimension to the work.

Strack’s work to date has fallen into three streams, alongside his muscular images of people he’s also made a series of more sketch based works and he’s also created a series of abstract works.

‘L’homme by Jeremy Strack runs until October 4 2013 at Gallery 360, 360 Hay Street Subiaco. The gallery is open Mon Tues Wed Fri 8.30am – 5.30pm and Thurs 8.30am – 7.30pm.
