Christine Forster, sister of Prime Minister Tony Abbott, has annouced her engagement to long term partner Virgina Edwards.Ms Forster and Ms Edwards make the annoucement in today’s edition of ‘New Idea’, telling the magazine that they became engaged on a recent trip to Broken Hill.

Currently it is not possible for the couple to wed in their home of New South Wales, but state based marriage equality legislation is expected to be introduced soon.

Ms Forster said that even though her brother is opposed to same sex marriage, she expected that both Mr Abbott and his wife Margie would attend their ceremony.

The Australian Capital Teritory will pass marriage equality legislation tomorrow, but the government has already announced that it will challegne the legislation in the High Court.
