The Minister for Immigration and Border Security, Scott Morrison has denied that staff on the Manus Island detention centre have a policy of reporting gay couples to Papua New Guinea authorities.

The concern was raised in a report published by Amnesty International who visited the detention centre last month.

“No, it’s not, my advice is that that is not what takes place,” Morrison told reporters during his weekly briefing on ‘Operation Sovereign Borders’.

“The department is unaware of any claims or declarations of … homosexuality being investigated at the centre,” Morrison said.

In his weekly address to journalists the Immigration and Border Security Minister also denied that detainees were sometimes limited to just 5000mls of water per day on the tropical island.

Mr Morrison said the reports claims were not correct.
