The pair have been presented as best friends on the show, but told New Idea that they felt it was time to come clean about their relationship.

The women, who live together in New South Wales, met through mutual friends eight years ago and had a commitment ceremony attended by fifty of their loved ones in March 2012.

“We had two different proposals at two different times. One was at a music festival a year after we met and the second while we were living in England. But basically we came home and had an engagement party, which turned into a surprise commitment ceremony,” 32 year old Carly Saunders told the magazine.

“We know same-sex marriage is not recognised in Australia so were going to wait, but then we thought we should do it while we were still young and pretty.”

“We wanted to go on the show as ourselves and have people judge us on our cooking and not our sexual preference,” Carly said.

Tresne Meddlteton, 29 said ““We applied to be on MKR and said we were best friends … but producers picked up we were a couple straight away.”

Evan Wilkes, executive producer of ‘My Kitchen Rules’ told news.com.au that it was the couple’s decision not to disclose their relationship. “It was Carly and Tresne’s decision not to disclose their relationship. Production respected their decision.”

Tresne Meddleton stated that their competitors on ‘My Kitchen Rules’ were aware of their relationship and had been very supportive.
