Tonight the West Australian Symphony Orchestra will complete it’s four concert program that will seen them perform all nine of Beethoven’s Symphonies.
Last week under the guidance of Conductor Asher Fisch (pictured) the program opened with a stunning performance of Beethoven’s First and Second Symphonies and a superbly energetic delivery of the instantly recogisable Fifth Symphony.
During the week the Orchestra revealed it has an equally exciting program lined up for 2015 including a Brahms Festival.
World famous violinist Pinchas Zukerman will return to Perth in August to perform two Brahms concertos as part of WASO’s first Brahms Festival. Zukerman will be joined by his wife, cellist Amanda Forsyth, and acclaimed American pianist Garrick Ohlsson for an unforgettable celebration of Brahms’ greatest works over two weekends.
WASO will open the 2015 season with an Alcohol.Think Again Masters Series concert featuring superstar violinist Sarah Chang, who launched her career with a New York Philharmonic debut at the age of eight. She will perform Bruch’s popular First Violin Concerto.
Acclaimed cellist Mischa Maisky will return to Australia for the first time in 20 years to make his long-awaited WASO debut with
performances of Strauss and Bloch.
In his second year as Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser, Asher Fisch will conduct and perform in the opening of the MACA Limited Classics Series. He will be joined by his partner, mezzo soprano Stefanie Irányi, who will sing Gershwin songs and a selection of arias from Viennese operetta.
In May, Paul Dyer, Artistic Director of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, returns to WASO to lead the Orchestra in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, featuring WASO’s own Shaun Lee-Chen as soloist.
‘Carmina burana’, Ravel’s ‘Bolero’ and Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ are among the many audience favourites to be performed as part of the Classics Series.
The 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings will also be observed with a poignant concert featuring Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings’ and ‘The Lark Descending’.
The orchestra will explore the world of jazz with the help of trumpeter James Morrison and singer Kate Ceberano will showcase music related to the James Bond films. The orchestra will also present the final installment of it’s presentation of music from ‘Lord of the Rings’.
Also on the menu is a new work from James Ledger, marking the tenth occasion WASO has performed a new piece by the Western Australian composer. A new work by English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage will also get it’s first outing in the orchestra’s 2015 program.
