Gals Return For A Big Year In 2010

GALSWA (the gay and lesbian singers of WA) begins its 17th year when rehearsals recommence on January 14th. The choir is looking forward to an exciting year in 2010 with several highlights already on the calendar. This includes travelling to Auckland, New Zealand for our first international appearance to participate in the third Out and Loud Gay Australasian Choral Festival at Easter. The festival will finish with a gala concert in Auckland Town Hall, which will feature individual choir performances and the world premiere of a piece for organ and massed choir by David Hamilton commissioned especially for the event. The choir will also travel to Denmark (WA) to participate in the Denmark Festival of Voice over the June long-weekend. This has long been a favourite of the choir providing another opportunity to showcase the choir’s talent and also be part of the wider choir network and to hear plenty of good music. Later in the month the choir will present its own Perth concert – watch out for ticket announcements, as our 2009 concert was standing room only.

The choir has grown both in numbers and calibre over the last couple of years under the talented musical direction of Claire King who pushes the choir to an ever more polished level of performance. While there is still room for fun the choir is also about striving to be the very best we can be. There is also support and encouragement for those wanting to try a solo performance or two.

So if you would like to be part of your community choir please come along and have a try. We are especially looking for some men to join us. No audition necessary and a friendly reception is guaranteed. Reading music is not a requirement but a commitment to helping us sound our very best is. It is not too late to join the group going to NZ however you need to sign up soon. Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7pm till 9pm at the North Perth Lesser Hall, View Street. Further enquiries please call Jackie on 0405081638 or visit our website at www.galswa.org
