Pejic first rose to fame as an androgynous male model, modeling both menswear and womenswear, and was dubbed “The Prettiest Boy in the World” by New York Magazine.

In July, Pejic came out as a transgender woman, and announced she would only be modelling womenswear from that point onwards.

She is now hoping to raise $200,000 to complete a documentary about her life story: from growing up in a refugee camp in the Balkans, to finding fame in the fashion world, and then adjusting to life after her transition.

Pejic stated on the page’s Kickstarter that the documentary was the idea of her filmmaker friend Eric Miclette, who is also working on an MTV documentary about transgender youth starring Laverne Cox.

Pejic shared her motivation for the project in her Kickstarter video:

“You see we live in a world that doesn’t like, trust, or respect transgender people. It felt like there were two options for me. I could transition, forget about my past, hide it, live in fear. Or I could be proud, share my story with the world, and hope that it does some good”
