Slow Uptake on Kevin Andrews Relationship Vouchers

Kevin AndrewsFederal Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews launched his Stronger Relationships Counselling program in July putting 100,000 vouchers on the table for couples around the country. As of September 9th though only 3450 have taken up the offer.

The program which is open to straight and same sex couples aims to improve relationships by providing a $200 voucher that can be redeemed at approved relationship courses.

At the programs launch Mr Andrews argued that Australia needed to strengthen relationships for the good of the community.

“Happy, healthy and strong relationships are vital for individual and family well-being, and help to strengthen communities too,” Andrews said.

“Divorce and relationship breakdown costs the Australian economy around $3 billion every year, and has a significant and often inter-generational impact on individuals, children and communities.”

If your thinking of heading off on a relationship course, maybe consider picking up one of the remaining 96,550 vouchers. Department of Social Services ‘Stronger Relationships’ funding. For more info on the funding head to www.dss.gov.au
