Lesbians Head South for the Winter

Ladies, it’s time to dust off those cowgirl boots, the annual Hoe-Down is on from Friday, July 20 and it’s still girls-only.

Taunton Farm in Cowaramup is the host for the weekend long event; only the second year at the new venue.

Now eight years running, event organiser Nickie Sheldrick aka Knickers the Hoe-Down Hunny said 2010 was going to be the biggest turn-out yet.

Approximately 150 women are expected this year at the Hoe-Down, a muster packed full of live music, workshops and some bootscootin’ good times.

Along with flamenco dancers, DJ Fluffy is set to headline the event.

‘DJ Fluffy is absolutely fantastic, she’s the best crowd pleaser and DJ I’ve ever met,’ Sheldrick said.

Sheldrick was very supportive of local music talent, sourcing many of the artists from the West Australian country music capital, Boyup Brook.

‘This year, there will be an Aussie music night on the Friday with live music from some local artists,’ she said.

For those who want to work up a sweat, there is volleyball, line-dancing lessons and of course the Hoe-Down Olympics involving hay-bale hurdles and jumping castle gymnastics.

Others may choose to sit back and relax with an array of workshops including poetry and women’s health or simply venture out for some bushwalking in the local area.

Due to high demand, the self-contained chalets are already fully booked but there are beds in cabins available for those who don’t want to miss out.

For more details on the Hoe-Down contact Nickie on 0417 952 388 or at hoedownswest@live.com.

CORRECTION
The Hoe Down will be held on August 20 – 22, not July 20-22.
