Store Profile: Method Clothing

Method Clothing is in the heart of Mount Lawley, offering shoppers something a little unique, a little different from mainstream. Something distinct.

Since opening in April 2004, Method has carved out a niche for itself through sheer perseverance and a focus on local emerging labels.

‘I’d describe our feel as eclectic, everyday, and slightly urban with a very local fashion designer presence,’ explained Method’s owner Dale Emery.

‘We try to get as many WA labels as possible and a variety of what’s available. Not necessarily ones that are more successful, but rather ones that are just starting out. We like to give them a leg up.

‘The isolation certainly seems to create a lot of variety.’

As such it’s here you’ll find such wonderful local labels as Ae’men, Stand International, Faux-Pas and Elementree for the boys and Alana & Co, Petals in Disarray and the amazing Poppy Lissiman.

So does the eclectic nature of the store reflect in the customers Emery attracts?

‘To a certain extent, yes I would (describe my customers as being eclectic),’ she said.

‘You need to be looking for something a little bit different. Believe it or not I don’t think things in here are that different but that’s the feedback we get from customers.

‘Some people come here specifically because they know that they can get something a little bit different, and other people come here and are not quite convinced that’s what they should be wearing.’

But, Emery assured, they always walked away satisfied.

And with a swag of national labels including ML Denim and Fluxus, there’s always something to satisfy everybody’s taste, which is good considering how varied the inhabitants of Mount Lawley are.

‘There’s a huge range, I would say,’ Emery agreed.

‘And they’re all certainly quite individual.

‘People walking past the store range in age from 13 to 60 and I’ve seen a lot of changes in the streetscape. It’s still an upcoming area. I’d basically describe it as quite an individual area.’

For her part in it, Emery’s Method Clothing caters to – and encourages – that individuality.

‘We’re providing something that is a little unusual and not something that you can buy everywhere. Small retailers can buy small amounts of limited edition pieces and that’s what we try to do.’

Method Clothing is located at 557 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley.
