Producer John Frost said his organisation was thrilled to bring the popular musical back to Perth.

“We are thrilled to bring ‘Wicked’ back to Perth” said Frost. “Perth audiences flocked to ‘Wicked’ during the last season, and we’ve had hundreds of requests on social media to bring it back. ‘Wicked’ is a musical phenomenon. It has been seen by over 40 million people worldwide and regularly grosses in excess of US$1.8 million each week on Broadway. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience”.

Andrew Hill, Chief Operating Officer, Crown Perth said, “’Wicked’ was one of the most popular shows ever to run at Crown Theatre and so to welcome the production back is a real privilege and an opportunity for the people of Perth to either see the show again, or if they missed it first time round, to see the show in their home State. The biggest selling show on Broadway, ‘Wicked’ is filled with intrigue, sabotage and fun – it’s a must see for any musical fan.”

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, ‘Wicked’ has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production features musical staging by Wayne Cilento and is directed by Lisa Leguillou, based on the original direction by Joe Mantello.

When the show last visited Perth in 2011, OUTinPerth’s writer Scott-Patrick Mitchell described it as an energetic work.

“The costumes are incredible and eclectic, the staging phenomenal and diverse and the overall self-contained energy electric. The closing number of Act I, ‘Defying Gravity’, is a work of pure genius.” Mitchell said.
