Independent Theatre Celebrated at The Blue Room Awards

On December 16th, the best and brightest of the local independent theatre scene came together for the Blue Room Theatre Awards ceremony.

The Blue Room Theatre Awards occur annually and highlight feats of theatrical excellence from the theatre’s productions from the past year.

The 2014 ceremony saw stiff competition for the nine awards, with every production being nominated for a Member’s Choice Award.

‘Those Who Fall in Love Like Anchors Dropped Upon the Ocean Floor’, a new production from theMOXYcollective (pictured above) were toast of evening, taking home four awards. The show was named Best Production, Members’ Choice, Best Set Design and Best Performance for actor Ben Mortley.

Writer and comedian Sarah Young was awarded the Judges’ Award for Best Writing for her acclaimed play ‘Giving Up the Ghosts’, her first theatrical work.

Daisy Saunders was awarded Best Production Team for ‘Status Room’. The Audience Development Award was given to CI Enterprises for the comedy ‘This Is Not a Love Song’, starring comedian Greg Fleet, Tegan Mulvany and Shane Adamczak.

Little y Theatre Co. and whatshesaid were awarded Best Publicity for the production ‘Rabbithead’. Grimly comedic musical ‘Werewolf Priest’ was given the Coopers’ Best Host Award.

The Blue Room Theatre have just released their program for Summer Nights 2015, the venue’s contribution to the Fringe World Festival. More information is available on The Blue Room website.
