So exSIGHTed!!

The Freedom Centre’s Open Day on October 23 for Pride WA’s 2010 festival was a great success and saw the opening of our new Youth Art Space: exSIGHT.

The FC Open day was a chance for family, friends and community members to check out FC and all that we’ve been doing throughout the year. We had a range of people visit the centre, including parents of young FC visitors, a high school teacher, some prospective FC vollies, and a number of 26+ community members who came to see the Centre and new exhibition space.

Freedom Centre’s exSIGHT Youth Art Space currently features the creative works of young people that visit FC and the Queer Map of Perth that was also at Pride Fairday last month. Community members that saw exSIGHT said it was a great, and a worthwhile space for our young people to express themselves. Many marvelled at the talents of the young people who were exhibiting their work too.

The exSIGHT project has been developed to provide LGBTQ+ young people in Perth with a space where they can display and promote their creative works. This summer FC is offering a series of exSIGHTing art workshops for sexually, sex and/or gender diverse young people under 26 to further develop their visual art skills. We will use the art produced in the workshops to exhibit when we host the first official exSIGHT youth art exhibition early in 2011!

To see the exSIGHT Youth Art Space, contact the FC Coordinator or check out Out in Perth or www.freedom.org for our future exhibitions.
