Smith will be the first British solo male singer to sing the theme tune to a Bond film since Tom Jones delivered ‘Thunderball’ in the 1960’s.

He will also be the first gay singer to perform a Bond theme.

‘The Writing’s on the Wall’ will be the theme to ‘Spectre’ the 24th film in the James Bond franchise, and the fourth with actor Daniel Craig in the title role.

Other artists who have delivered a Bond theme include Adele, Shirley Bassey, Garbage, Duran Duran, A-ha, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon, and Paul McCartney’s band Wings.

Recent themes from Jack White and Alicia Keys and Chris Cornell didn’t sell very well, but Madonna scored a hit with her theme for ‘Die Another.

Spectre will be out in the UK in late October and the rest of the world will get to see the movie in early November.
