Irish drag superstar Panti Bliss will feature in a new documentary following her journey as an ‘accidental’ activist after a speech she delivered on homophobia last year went viral around the world.

‘The Queen of Ireland’ focuses on Panti and alter-ego Rory O’Neill as he shares experiences growing up in a small Irish town to international acclaim as an entertainer and activist.

The tale of ‘Pantigate’ runs parallel with the rise of support for marriage equality, leading up to the ultimately successful referendum that saw marriage opened up to include Ireland’s same-sex and gender diverse couples.

We spoke with Panti earlier this year on delivering TEDx talks, appearing at Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and her love for proud lesbians.
