Rather than staging a show which usually take over two hours and a cast of hundreds to tell Shakespeare’s famous Scottish play, this production – ‘Macbeth Seòmar-Cadail’ – removes all the extraneous story lines and just focuses on the two lead characters.

The new production focuses on the characters of King Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth, the show keeps all their dialogue and cuts the running time down to just forty minutes.

Director Tim Brain said the truncated version keeps the core essence of Shakespeare’s classic text describing it as raw, emotional, passionate and explicit.

“I was drawn to this piece because it evolves around the two main charactetrs. A simple story, but with complex motivations and character interactions.” Brains said. “These are two people in love who reach beyond their grasp, not necessarily the embodiments of evil that they have been portrayed as over the years. By seeing all there peices so close together, you are able to get an understanding of who they are as ‘people’, not ‘cardboard evil’.

Actor Daley King will take on the role of Macbeth, while Lady Macbeth will be performed by Bethsaioa Tapsall. Also in the cast is Claire Bamford, Abbey McCaughan and Bella Doyle.

This year is From the Hip Productions 20th anniversary. The company’s history stretches back to the Artrage production ‘War of the Worlds’ at the Blue Room in 1995.

‘Macbeth Seòmar-Cadail’ plays nightly at Murdoch University’s newly refurbished Studio 411 from Thursday 10th December to Saturday 12th December.   Tickets are available from Try Booking via Murdoch Theatre.

The play contains sexual content and adult themes and is not suitable for children under the age of 15.
