Melissa Etheridge on why David Bowie was one of her heroes

Melissa Etheridge has paid tribute to David Bowie during a show in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The singer spoke about how David Bowie inspired her and how one song in particular spoke to her.

“It seemed to be filled with so much angst, but so much understanding about what it might like to be different,” Etheridge said, “what it might like to be have a relationship that maybe people don’t understand. Maybe what it was like to live in fear.”

Etheridge said the first time she heard this particular song it inspired her to write.
