Named after a creek that runs through the heart of Alabama, Waxahatchee brought the natural beauty of the American heartland to Perth for her PIAF show.

Katie Crutchfield, who performs as a solo artist on her records, toured with a full band that wonderfully supplemented her honest ’90s rock sound.

Her music blends a raw, crunchy sound with earnest lyrics in her soft yet powerful voice, a real treat for a live audience.

The crowd may have been quite small at Elisabeth Quay that evening, but the dedicated crowd whooped with delight after every tune, calling out their favourite tunes from her collection.

Crutchfield returned to the stage after her set with the band to play some of her tunes chosen by the crowd, armed with her guitar and charming voice.

Waxahatchee may have been here for one night, but any fan of that grungy ’90s sound should seek out her albums. A real treasure.
