Youth Are The Future

Hey Hey Queers! So you’ve heard from Sharlene and Charles for a bit… and now I think it’s my turn. Let’s talk about Youth. This year is exciting for Pride WA as we begin planning the next year of fabulous celebrations of our sexuality and gender. This year we want to involve more youth in our organisation.

Every year the Pride committee works to create events like Fairday and the Annual Pride Parade and a ton of other functions. This year the Youth Portfolio hopes to expand and run more events from picnics to movie nights and a couple of parties! However, one person can’t do it alone. Imagine one person trying to get all that shit together. Not going to happen. So I’m seeking bright and passionate people between the ages of 16 and 26 to join the YOUTH SUBCOMMITTEE.

Positions available on the Youth Subcommittee include; Marketing, Sponsorship, Events Management, Education and Entertainment. Each sub-portfolio requires about 7 hours of commitment per week, depending on the time of year, and will meet fortnightly. This is a great opportunities to gain experience in running events and learning how a not-for-profit community organisation works.

During National Youth Week we are having a youth picnic and BBQ at Kings Park on Saturday April 2 from 11am. It’s a pretty chillaxed event. Turn up with a rug and some food. We’ll be providing sausages and steak and soft drinks. The picnic is a youth event so come along if your under 26.

If you aren’t already a member of PrideWA join up, it’s only $15.00 and if you’re over the age of 18 you can enjoy half price entry to Connections Nightclub.

That’s all I have to say for now, you can always catch me on Facebook or chuck me an email if you have something to say, want to know more or to get involved – youth@pridewa.asn.au
