Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull plans to introduce the proposed legislation to enable a plebiscite on marriage equality in Parliament tomorrow.

Last night, the government Cabinet agreed to set the date for the vote on February 11 next and make it a mandatory vote for citizens.

The government has also decided it will provide $7.5 million to fund ‘yes’ and ‘no’ campaigns in the lead up to the vote on marriage equality.

Should the Coalition party room approve the proposed bill, the Prime Minister and Attorney General George Brandis will submit the plebiscite plan to the Parliament on Wednesday.

Government backbencher Warren Entsch, a vocal supporter of marriage equality, says he does not believe the bill will pass through Parliament.

“There will be no plebiscite, it won’t get up,” Entsch told SKY News.

“We wouldn’t be able to get it through.”
