800px-Bishop-Tamaki-Auckland-2006High profile New Zealand church leader Brian Tamaki delivered a sermon on Sunday, blaming same-sex marriage and homosexuality for natural disasters.

The leader of New Zealand’s Destiny Church gave the sermon just hours before an earthquake shook the country’s South Island.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred around 95 km from the major city of Christchurch, ending the lives of two people.

After the quake, Destiny Church re-shared and pinned the video of the sermon to the top of their page with the caption; “As predicted during yesterday morning’s service, the recent natural disasters are a sign that nature was never created to carry the bondage of our iniquity.”

Pastor Tamaki tells his congregation during the sermon that “the Earth convulses under the weight of human sin.”

“The churches [in Christchurch have] allowed all sorts of activity you wouldn’t dare to imagine. If I’m bulldozing your ignorance, good. Because there were churches there that weren’t churches. They were actively involved in homosexual practice, homosexual priests.”

Destiny Church’s spokesperson told New Zealand Herald the church supports those affected by natural disasters.

“In view of the terrifying events that have impacted the cities and families of New Zealand over the last few days, our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims affected by the earthquakes and floods over this last week.”
