Janelle Koenig’s blend of raunchy anecdotes, sassy songs, and comic exploration of life in Perth made Indoorsy Type just the show I needed on a Friday night after a hard week of Fringing (lt’s a hard life.)

Personally, I liked Janelle Koenig from the start. Well, from before the show began actually. She put in the effort to familiarize herself with the audience before the performance started, and was thus able to draw on people from the crowd to enhance her show, which is sure to make every show unique.

She also showed her experience as a confident performer, by easily turning teasing audience members into the butt of her next joke. Improvised banter with the audience is one of Koenig’s strengths as a comedian, and when I heckled her she roasted me by referring to me as the “guy in the ‘boy’ shorts, and Amish shirt”. Needless to say I piped down.

This show is a must for Perth locals. Koenig draws on her experience of living the high life in Thronlie, and although some of the jokes were lost on me (as I am new to Perth), the outbursts of laughter from the audience confirmed that her comic, deprecating assessment of Perth’s suburbs was hitting home.

Musically, she uses a mix of original songs and tailored classics to explore some rather hilarious sexual escapades. Expect to hear some Bob Marley, Natalie Imbruglia, and Men At Work- reworked with brand new lyrics exploring one of Koenig’s erotic Northbridge experiences.

So do become an Outdoorsy Type this Fringe season and head on out to Janelle Koenig’s Indoorsy Type. Oh and make sure to look at the Fringe UV Show rating because this show is rated ‘hot’; and her blend of raunchy anecdotes, and oh so sexy humorous music singles are sure to leave you feeling rather funburned.
