Silent Protest at The Court

On Thursday April 21 a walk-out protest was staged at The Court Hotel. Via a Facebook campaign, patrons of the hotel who were unhappy with safety or service at the venue were asked to visit The Court Hotel, but only drink the free water and then leave the venue at a specified time. A bus was provided to take disgruntled patrons to other venues in Northbridge.

The protest attracted only four participants. One of the four attendees, who OUTinPerth spoke to, said they were encouraging the opening of another gay pub.

The woman declined to give her name since she believed she would be banned from the Court, and said ‘I don’t think the Court should close but it needs to clean up its act.’

The protest organiser Mark Anthony Holland said he was disappointed in the response but noted that it was a peaceful event.

‘We were a bit disappointed, the fact is it was a silent protest it wasn’t meant to be rowdy or unruly, there wasn’t going to be misbehaving.’

Mr Holland has also recently announced his plans to open a new gay venue in Perth.
