Review | Rough Night is a hilarious coke fuelled nightmare comedy

When a group of former fraternity girls find the pressures of adulthood too much they do the only logical thing and blow off all responsibility and head to Miami for a bachelorette weekend.

What begins as a 72 hour release valve quickly turns into a hilarious cocaine fuelled nightmare comedy of errors that makes the man-child equivalent cast of The Hangover look like amateurs.

A litany of disaster scenarios present themselves to tell a tale involving an accidentally dead male stripper, adult diapers, penis pasta, truck stop meth deals and inappropriate polyamory.

Suffice to say this movie pulls no punches when it comes to girls going murderously wild. Scarlett Johansson carries the movie as the lead but it’s her supporting sisters Kate McKinnon (Ghostbusters) as a Vegemite guzzling Australian hippy and Jillian Bell (Workaholics) as Johansson’s overbearing “best friend” that provide the big laughs.

Cameos by Demi Moore and Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell add to the fun in a surprisingly sleazy fashion and the creative use of self waxing strips was an interesting surprise.

Rough Night is a perfectly calibrated comedy of murder, mayhem and mistakes that won’t be bathed in accolades come awards season but its humour and heart make for a thoroughly worthwhile stay to the very end of the credits popcorn experience.
