Jaden Duong, 36, is facing charges of arson and property damage, in relation to the incident that occurred at the Deakin headquarters of the Australian Christian Lobby.

It is alleged Duong drove a van containing gas cylinders to the location and then set it alight, causing an explosion that significantly damaged the building.

Duong appeared in court for the first time today, his lawyers told the court his involvement was not contested, but his mental state at the time of the incident was a significant factor.

Following the explosion Duong presented himself at a Canberra hospital with severe burns and he spent months recuperating.

Today he was committed to stand trial and will return to court later this month.
