Senator Dean Smith encourages WA to attend Sunday's marriage rally

Senator for Western Australia Dean Smith has strongly encouraged Western Australians who support same-sex marriage to attend a rally being held on Sunday at Wellington Square.

Senator Smith said that with ballots being mailed out from this week across Australia, it was important now, more than ever, to reach out to family and friends to discuss why voting ‘YES!’ matters.

“Every Australian who is committed to the values of fairness and a fair go can be confident that providing equality before the law and sharing the institution of marriage will build stability, commitment and stronger communities.

“I’ve been heartened that so many Liberal Parliamentarians and other conservatives have stood up to be counted on the issue of same-sex marriage.

“It’s been personally encouraging that Liberals like Nick Greiner AC, former Howard Government Ministers Helen Coonan and Ian Campbell, and my parliamentary colleagues including Simon Birmingham, Kelly O’Dwyer and my fellow Western Australian Melissa Price have pledged to vote ‘YES!’,” Senator Smith said.

Senator Smith said he and other Liberals would be attending the rally on Sunday to lend their voices to the ‘YES!’ vote.

“I hope all Western Australians – particularly fellow Liberals, their families and friends – who support a ‘YES!’ vote will attend the rally on Sunday,” Senator Smith said.

“A vote for ‘YES!’ will deliver greater stability in committed relationships as the foundation for a stronger society.

“A vote for ‘YES!’ will provide for marriage for all while protecting religious views about marriage under a Coalition government.

“The time is now to vote ‘YES!’”

The WA says YES! Get Out the Vote for Marriage Equality Rally will take place this Sunday, September 17, at Wellington Square in East Perth from 10am.
