This year will be the first time any Mr Gay Pride Australia competition will be held including various challenges both online and face to face with the winner heading off to Mr Gay World in 2018.

Last year’s winner David Francis (pictured) attended the finals of Mr Gay World in Spain where he placed seventh out of 21 competing countries. This year David will be involved in the organisation of the competition as well as take on a role as a judge.

David Francis describes his time in Spain as ‘memorable’ and encourages anyone considering applying to register their interest to make sure potential candidates don’t miss out on key dates.

“Representing Australia has to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life,” Francis said.

“Having the opportunity to meet like-minded representatives from all around the world has given me friends for life and valuable insight into how other countries fight for LGBTI+ inclusion.

“Australia is yet to win the Mr Gay World title but I am encouraged that we have the talent to take home the title in 2018, the tenth anniversary of the event.”

The competition will officially start in December when finalists will be announced and online challenges will commence.

It is expected that a final weekend will be conducted sometime during January or February where contestants will be judged on their public speaking, community outreach, engagement, leadership ability, and personal character.

“Mr Gay Pride Australia is about finding and developing leaders in our community, those who celebrate diversity and promote unity, especially at a time when it is easy to get caught up in the divisive debates portrayed in the media.” Francis said.

“I would love to see a diverse range of guys applying from various backgrounds and from locations all over Australia to make this a truly national competition.

“It is important to remember that Mr Gay Pride Australia is not a beauty contest. A candidate’s physical appearance is not assessed at any stage of the competition and does not form part of the judging criteria.”

Hopeful competitors are invited to register their expression of interest for Mr. Gay Pride Australia 2018 via the competition’s website.
