Equality Campaign encourages everyone to return their survey forms

The Equality Campaign today urged supporters of marriage equality to get their postal survey in the post box by October 27.

“We are grateful for the millions who have voted and the tens of thousands of volunteers who have campaigned long and hard for all Australians to be given a fair go – but there is still work to be done,” said Tiernan Brady, Executive Director of The Equality Campaign at a rally in Sydney on Saturday.

“It’s important that no stone is left unturned. Talk to your family members, friends, neighbours, work colleagues and teammates about the importance of voting yes and make sure they tick yes in the survey and post it back.

“Marriage equality is a straightforward issue of fairness and equality. Every Australian should be treated equally under the law and that includes being able to marry the person they love.

Our campaign has always and will continue to be one of respectful conversations about real people’s lives. This has been a campaign of millions of conversations. It’s about our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, colleagues, neighbours and teammates,” Brady said.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has recommended survey forms be posted back by this Friday 27 October so they arrive before the survey closes on 7 November at 6pm.

“Achieving marriage equality can be a unifying moment for our nation as we include all Australians in our marriage laws. Let’s get this done so we can all move forward as a fairer and more inclusive nation,” Brady said.

The Equality campaign will hold an event 40 Love in Perth on Sunday at Loton Park Tennis Club.  Member of the LGBTI community and their allies are invited to create a giant rainbow, by wearing one of the colours of the Pride flag.
