Brisbane based punk rock band Good Boy have recorded a song about the marriage postal survey.

The aptly titled A Waste Of 122 Million Dollars (Taxpayer Funded) features on the bands new EP Shirk Life. You can also see the band live when they plays shows in Mandurah and Perth in December.

Shirk Life will be released via Barely Dressed / Remote Control on November 10. It will be available on a limited edition 12″ vinyl, packaged with their earlier standout EP Plum.

Good Boy say they never thought of themselves as a political band, and maintain that they are not now either, it’s just sometimes the times force your hand.

Their new EP has been described as a snapshot of living in Brisbane in your early 20’s, with a sound that recalls best of Cloud Nothings, Parquet Courts and Australia’s influential Eddy Current Suppression Ring.

While A Waste Of 122 Million Dollars (Taxpayer Funded) spits a self-explanatory message about the marriage equality plebiscite, Fishing With A Shotgun seethes with frustration about the seeming non-choice between neo-liberal, right-wing and conservative politicians.

1972 VW Superbug is a nostalgic sprawler, exploring regional life through the lens of bored late-night in their hometown of Bundaberg, and Majic Country is an ode to their new hometown of Fortitude Valley.

Good Boy are touring the EP in December.

December 8 – Brighton Hotel, Mandurah
December 9 – Mr Lonely, Fremantle
December 14 – The Workers Club, Melbourne
December 15 – The Lansdowne, Sydney
December 16 – Crowbar, Brisbane
December 22 – Cats at Rocket Bar, Adelaide
