Last year, the advocate for transgender rights and awareness was previously awarded LGBTI Person of the Year at Victoria’s Globe Awards.

Stone was the youngest person in Australia to be given access to hormone blocking treatment, when in 2010 at the age of ten a court ruled she could begin her gender transition process.

Stone has campaigned for the laws to be changed so that young transgender people will no longer have to apply to the court to get access to stage two hormone treatment, rather the decision should be made by medical professionals.

Actress Magda Szubanski was nominated for Victorian of the Year, but the award was given to fellow actor Samuel Johnson for his work in raising funds and awareness for cancer research.

The Australian of the Year, and Young Australian of the Year, will be announced on January 25th 2018.
