Hundreds turn out for hockey competition The Pride Cup

The inaugural Pride Hockey Cup last week saw hundreds of spectators supporting The Pythons, WA’s LGBTI Hockey Team.

The players split into several teams, The Pythons, The Anacondas and the Cobras to battle it out for a $29 plastic cup and serious bragging rights.

With a performance from the fabulous Barbie Q, Alexas Armsstrong and Fay Rocious in the half-time break, it was a camp and fun evening.

Fay Rocious also showed she can deliver some hilarious commentary to a live sporting match cleverly working in many Kylie Minogue song titles into her banter, while also helping the single players to improve their love lives.

Member for Perth John Carey delivered the awards at the end of the match.

The winner of the best goal celebration was the ‘Python Conga’, while team captain Simon Thuijs was named ‘Python of the Match’.

The Pythons took out the third place in fun competition, while the Anaconda’s were the runners up, leaving the Cobras to claim victory.

This weekend the team are hosting a ‘Have a Go’ event inviting anyone interested in taking up the sport to have a try. From watching last week’s game we can attest that it makes you pretty fit.

Head down to the UWA Hockey Club in Mount Claremont at 4:30pm on Sunday to get in on the action.
